5 Radical Reasons to Choose Sobriety

I quit drinking alcohol - electively - in 2017, long before non-alcoholic drinks and the concept of “sober curiosity” were hot on the scene. At this time, choosing to quit drinking was a radical decision for a casual drinker who didn’t identify as someone who had an abusive relationship with alcohol.

And yet, choosing sobriety remains one of the most powerful choice I’ve ever made. Committing to an alcohol-free lifestyle has offered me more clarity, opportunities, growth, and happiness than I could have ever imagined. Truth be told, I didn’t realize how much I was missing out on in life until I decided to quit drinking. If you, too, have been dabbling with the idea of going alcohol-free, perhaps you’ll resonate with these five radical reasons to choose sobriety.

You’re ready to get out of your own way

I view sobriety as a tool for tapping into your authentic power, finding deeper levels of fulfillment, achieving rapid personal growth, experiencing spiritual awakening, and - ultimately - pursuing your truest potential.

Sure, you can do all of these things while drinking. But, in my experience, you will go further, faster (and have more profound results) with alcohol out of the way. If you’re ready to stop with the subtle levels of self-sabotage and have the time and energy to do the work to get out of your own way, breaking up with alcohol can be a fast-track to that goal.

You want to Achieve your full potential

I always say that you don't need to have a problem with alcohol for alcohol to be a problem in your life. If you sense that your relationship with alcohol is keeping you from the experiences you desire emotionally, professionally, personally, romantically, spiritually or beyond it is definitely creating problems in your life.

Further, it’s time we ditch the notion that sobriety is exclusive to individuals who experience addiction - you can choose to change your relationship with alcohol simply because you want to.

There is a growing pull for social/casual or "gray area" drinkers to explore an alcohol-free lifestyle for personal growth and wellness reasons.

You’ve realized moderating alcohol is more trouble than it’s worth

Changing your relationship with alcohol - particularly in a society that seems to be obsessed with drinking - isn't as simple as it sounds.

Most people don’t start out on the sober curious track with the intention to break up with alcohol entirely. Typically, they romanticize the idea of changing their relationship with alcohol and becoming moderate, every-now-and-again, take-it-or-leave-it drinkers. Sure, this might sound more manageable, but moderation often comes with a level of mental gymnastics that many people find frustrating and disappointing.

You want to find your growth edge

Let’s face it, alcohol stunts your emotional growth. When you use alcohol as an emotional anesthetic or social lubricant, you block your opportunity to learn valuable skills. Over time, your confidence in your own ability dwindles making getting along in the world without alcohol feel intimidating.

Luckily, you are capable of growth & change. If you're willing to be goth curious & brave, you can catch up in the areas where alcohol has stunted your growth.

You’re ready to vibrate higher

Everything has an energetic vibration & the vibe of alcohol is low.

When you lower your energetic vibration, you also block your access to high-vibe experiences and people (making it more difficult to call in your dreams & desires)...it's time to change that.

Wouldn’t it feel amazing to live a high-vibe life where you feel connected, clear, & constantly supported?

You’re in the midst of a spiritual awakening

Drinking blocks you connection to your Inner Guide & your connection to The Universe (Source, Diving, God, etc.).

You can reach deeper levels of spiritual connection when you're free from alcohol.

I believe it is this connection to our own internal wisdom & the infinite wisdom of the Universe that fuels our desires, clarity & creativity. It is through this connection that we find our authentic selves, our passion, purpose...& - ultimately - our fulfillment in life
